President's Corner
Greetings fellow Rotarians!

As we are closing out our first month of the "New Year", I just wanted to put out there to everyone, especially our newer Rotarians, about ways to be involved.  Not only do we have our annual fundraisers and projects, such as Project Healing Waters, High School Leadership Luncheon, Not Just Another Auction, Spaghetti Dinner and the Highway CleanUp, we also have other committees that you can be involved with that are working on some great things!  Rotary is an International service organization so why not join the Stroudsburgs Rotary International Committee or if working with youth is your passion, consider joining Youth Service and volunteering with our clubs' Interact (Stroudsburg High School) and Rotaract (ESU).  Are you excited to be a member about the Greatest Rotary Club in the World and you want to get the word out about Stroudsburgs Rotary and all of the great things we are doing?  Then perhaps the Marketing Committee is for YOU!  Or maybe you want to mentor new members about all things Rotary...if that's the case then come join the Membership Committee.  If you want to get your hands dirty then check out the Club Service and Community Service committees as they discuss different service projects for our club.  All of these committees work hand in hand which makes us so great and what better way to learn more about each other than to get involved!

Some of the exciting things we have coming up are the Railriders Strike Out Polio baseball game, our club Picnic at the Parkers, Stroudfest, and the Bob Wehe Memorial Blood Drive.  We also have the opportunity to help out friends at the West End Rotary during the West End Fair (details coming soon)!  Mark your calendars now and keep your eye out each week for the MonRotary for other fun and exciting announcements!

Blessings,
Jeff Gilbert

Monroe County ReAssessment Talk
County Commissioner John Moyer came to speak to the club about the assessment.  Earlier this week, an article came out in the Pocono Record written by Brian Myszkowski.  The article breaks it all down:

"Why was my house assessed at such a high value? Are my taxes going up?  When assessment change notices were released throughout Monroe County on July 1, 2019, many homeowners were shocked by the figures within. Home-assessment values were quadruple the 1989 figures, begging a number of questions, namely the logic behind the sharp increase, and whether or not the new figures would cause taxes to increase in kind. County Commissioner John D. Christy said that the bulk of the confusion can be cleared up with a simple comparison of the assessment rates that were used in 1989 and 2019. “The simplest answer is that we’re going from 25% — which was extremely confusing, but I don’t know why they did it back in 1989 — to 100%” Christy said.
