Recap May 12, 2025
Recap-

Thank you, Barbara Van Nortwick, co-founder of the Monroe County Dementia Coalition.  Barbara shared about the organization bringing awareness and training to Monroe County.
The coalition is bringing dementia expert Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, Positive Approach to Care, to Shawnee Inn this October 9th , where Teepa Snow will be giving a full day presentation on dementia
and dementia skills training. Click here to register

Here Barbara is demonstrating how holding the patients' hand and wiping their mouth makes the patient feel like they are doing it themselves.  Participant John Dennis confirmed that it was a much nicer way, more independent, than having someone just come up and wipe your mouth for you.

Foundation Grant Approvals -
The grants were shared with the members at our lunch and evening meetings with open discussion after the meeting. There were no members that came for discussion.
Grants are as follows:
Spark Arts Inc - Classes, camp or workshops for children - Art, Meditation, & Nature - bringing the arts & mindfulness to our young ones - $1,000
Pocono Mountains United Way Backpack Giveaway - $2000
Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church - Food Pantry - To repair their outdoor freezer - $2000 - this will be elevated to District
Salvation Army - Food for their youth programs - $1000
Jo's Food Pantry - Food for the community - $1000
Gallery at 530 Main (Fine Arts Discovery Series) - Materials needed for exhibitions, marketing, rent, utilities - to help provide free cultural access to residents & visitors - $500
The total the Foundation had for distribution was $8700, $7500 will be granted out, with the Board agreeing that $1200 will be reinvested in the account for growth.

If you sponsored a grant last year, please make sure the Foundation has received the receipts otherwise money will need to be paid back.
Please invite the organization to talk at our meeting to share the impact it has had on their organization.

**Share your thoughts on whether the members would like PM United Way backpack giveaway to be an annual event that we participate in and grant money to every year.  I heard initially that prior to the PMUW backpack giveaway that this was a Rotary project.

Stroudsburgs Rotary participated in the very 1st CLIMB Event for the American Cancer Society - It was a great day for a Climb on Saturday, May 17, 2025 and nice to have Stroudsburgs Rotary name on the T-shirts.  There were 60 participants, with 4 Rotarians present; Amy Leiser, Gene Prospero, Pres Elect Ed Schaefer, President Stacy Rodriguez and our on the road life saver with snacks John Leiser.   Thank you, Ed, for setting up our corner alongside the Scouts table, our Rotary Blowup looked great, and so happy we were able to pass out Prime drinks and powder mix.  That brought the participants straight to us to share about Rotary.
Appreciation to us all for the breakdown.  Thank you, John for meeting us and sharing your "kids" treats with us to help us make it to the end.   Thank you, Amy for putting up with us slow pokes. You probably could have climbed the mountain twice to our once.  It was a great day of bonding and found out that Amy's daughter is actually enrolled in the Boys Scouts.  Thank you, Gene for treating us to tacos at Zach's Taco Shack.  They were great tacos.
