Group Study Exchange 2010

The District GSE committee met last night to discuss the logistics of this year’s inbound group from Columbia and some changes to the overall program while they are here.

Date of Arrival: April 6, 2010

Date of Departure: May 4, 2010.

In order to more accurately follow the RI policy on this program it was agreed that instead of having the group be in a state of constant mobilization between 8 clusters, the program has been modified to have them hosted at only 4 clusters.  Each cluster will alternate every other year.

The clusters that will participate this year are, Cluster 1 – Sayre Area, Cluster 4 – Pocono Area, Cluster 5, Hazelton and Cluster 7/8 -Wilkes Barre.

Arrival to Cluster 4, the Pocono Area (SBurgs, West end, Smithfields, Mt. Pocono and Top) is officially on April 7, 2010.

At this time, we are hoping that the group will fly into AVOCA, thus avoiding the participation of the RC of the Stroudsburgs to pick them up in Newark and provide first night lodging and the same at the end of their stay.  We, Cluster 4, will be responsible for picking them up on Wednesday, April 7 at the Ramada Inn on RT. 6 &11 in Clarks Summit to start their visit in our cluster for the next 7 days.  At the end of their visit here on April 14, John Davis and I plan to transport them to Tunkhannock to meet with the local Rotary Club for lunch and pass the group along to Cluster 1-Sayre

We are now looking for Host Families to provide a home for our guest to stay 3-4 nights at each location and some planned activities from the clubs that would like to participate.

We are hoping to plan 2 Vocational Days while they are in our cluster where the individuals can spend some time at organizations that match their professional profiles.  The rest of the time should be devoted to group activities.   We need to discuss club visits and the annual trip to NYC.

The 4 professionals include:

  1. An industrial Engineer focused on Project Management and Security.
  2. English as a second language Teacher interested in visiting Schools and Learning Institutions.
  3. Mechanical Engineer in the Coal Mining Industry, and Industrial Equipment Maintenance Specialty interested in the obvious.
  4. Broadcast Communications and Marketing interested in visiting Local TV, Radio and Production companies.
  5. As soon as I get a profile for the Team Leader I will pass this info on.

We need hosts and vocational activities.
