Welcome

 Welcome to

The Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs

Home of the Daffodil Express

The Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs takes great pride in its many civic-minded endeavors designed to support the community in which the Club resides and Rotary District 7410.  One of the greatest achievements which evidences the Club’s dedication to “Service Above Self” is the Club’s longstanding commitment to the Daffodil Express.

In 1981, volunteers of the Monroe Unit of the American Cancer Society joined with the Monroe County Area on Aging to undertake to raise funds for the Daffodil Express – a much needed vehicle to transport cancer patients to and from treatment sites both within Monroe County and to oncology treatment sites in the surrounding communities of Lackawanna, Luzerne and Lehigh Counties.

In order to raise the necessary funds.  These dedicated citizens approached the Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs and the Daffodil Express was born.  Always true to the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”.  The Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs reacted quickly to raise the necessary funds to purchase, in January, 1982, an Oldsmobile sedan for the purpose of transporting local patients to what was then the nearest radiation therapy centers in Bethlehem, Allentown and Scranton.  Daffodil Express I logged more than 135,000 miles between 1982 and 1987.

Again, in 1987 the call was heard by The Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs and Daffodil Express II went into service again transporting cancer patients for an additional 123,000 miles.

Through the years, Daffodil Express III, IV and V continues to serve our community by transporting cancer patients to now-available local cancer treatment centers, as well as other treatment centers, as required, in our surrounding communities.  From 1981 to present, for more than 20 years and nearly 800,000 miles, the Daffodil Express has been operated solely by volunteer drivers, contributing their time to the needs of our Rotarian community.

This valuable asset to the Monroe County commuinty is a very visible example of " Service Above Self" at work  through the The Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs.

The staff and volunteers in the Monroe Unit of the American Cancer Society and the cancer patients they serve are continually grateful for the more than 20 year partnership forged between The Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs and the Monroe Unit of the American Cancer Society and the many volunteer drivers who cruise the roadways of Monroe County in the Daffodil Express, serving our community.
