What happened last week?
Once again (she must be on a lucky streak) Claudette McWilliams was called to find the Queen. Did she find her? Nope. $115 rolls over!
Dues invoices have been distributed. Please pay by May 31st. You can pay by check or online. Please give checks to Marlo.
Project Healing Waters will take place July 12th at Ray J's. Looking for volunteers. Stay tuned for more info!
Need a few more volunteers for Spaghetti Dinner. If you have not signed up yet, you are missing out on a great time. This was an event I LOVED participating in because it is very hands on and I LOVED working in the kitchen with everyone.
There will be an electronic vote regarding the Firearms Policy. Keep an eye out for President Ruth Ann's email!
Our Speaker:
Our very own Jeff Wright spoke about the history of the Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs in his very fashionable hat! We were founded in 1922 (Happy 95 Year Anniversary to us!) with 25 members. He talked about not only how our club got started but how Stroudsburg looked back in those days...no highways, not too many paved roads, and some of the businesses and banks that were in the area. Our club started meeting at the Indian Queen hotel. Members of our club helped flu victims from an epidemic which started a few years earlier. Earnest Wyckoff, Hal Harris and Charles Bensinger were among the founding members. The initiation fee was $10 and dues were $30. One project of the club was to merge the borough of Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg. The Club Awarded scholarhips for local students. The first woman member was Jane Discoll in 1987 and our first femal President is our very own Eileen Holder! The club then met at the Stroud Hotel for many years. For more on our history I would HIGHLY encourage taking Jeff Wright out for a cup of coffee. Oh the stories I bet he can tell! Thank you Jeff for sharing our history!
